Windlesham United Charities and Poors Allotments
Residents of Bagshot, Windlesham and Lightwater are entitled to benefit from this charity, whose trustees administer the nine James Butler Almshouses at Meade Court, Bagshot and make winter fuel grants to those in need who have lived in the civil parish for a minimum of two years. Grants can also be made to help with respite care or to provide aids for the elderly or disabled, subject to funds being available.
The charity derives a small amount of income from Poors Allotments, 180 acres of heathland to the north of Old Dean which was set aside under the Inclosure Awards of the 19th century to provide fuel for the poor. The trustees also administer two small educational charities and make grants, when funds permit, to the three primary schools in the parish.
The charity has six trustees, five appointed by Windlesham Parish Council and one representing the Rector of Windlesham who is an ex-officio trustee.
Inquiries about grants or almshouse vacancies should be sent to the clerk, Mrs D. V. Christie, BEM, at 4 James Butler Almshouses, Meade Court, Guildford Road, Bagshot GU19 5NH, tel. 01276 476158.
