Woking Hospice Shop is Five

The Woking Hospice shop is celebrating its 5th Birthday in Bagshot this coming Monday 10th December 2012.

"We want to say thank you to all of our lovely customers and volunteers old and new", says manager Tony Dawes.  "Its hard to believe that we opened our doors with only one volunteer.  How times have changed.  We now have some 30 volunteers who give their time helping to keep the hospices in Woking and Weybridge up and running.....A BIG BIG thank you."

If you're in the village on Monday, do pop in and wish them a Happy Birthday.

Ellie Names the Lane

The Name the Lane competition for the path between the dry arch and Connaught Junior School has been won by Ellie Curtis, aged 9.

Ellie chose the name Badger Swift Way and as she explains "I have chosen this name because a badger is the logo for Bagshot Infant School and a swift is the logo for Connaught Junior School and the lane runs between the two schools."

The competition attracted fantastic entries and the judges were very keen to let everyone know how impressed they were with all the names - it didn't make their job easy!

The competition was judged by Geoff Marston as chairman of the Bagshot Village Plan committee and of Bagshot Business Association, Janet Vallance representing Bagshot Society, Steven Harris who is the Borough's GIS & Gazetteer Officer and Glyn Carpenter and Alan Howland, whose businesses (along with Angolds Carpets) sponsored the competition.

Winners and runners-up were chosen from each age category and so congratulations also go to:

• Jack Mallon - Tree Tunnel Lane (winner Infants)
• Elliot Croxton - The Link (runner-up Infants)
• Aaron Gibson - Echoes Lane (runner-up Juniors)
• Emma Baldwin - One More Step (winner Seniors)
• Nick Ransom - Olympic Lane (runner-up Seniors)

As overall winner, Ellie has won a prize of £40, with each of the winners of the other two categories winning £15 each. Ellie's school, Connaught Junior, also receives a prize of £50.

Wayne Nominated for WOWSA

Wayne Soutter, who conquered the "North Channel" swim between Scotland and Northern Ireland, has been nominated for a WOWSA award.  WOWSA is the World Open Water Swimming Association and Wayne has been nominated for the 2012 Man of the Year Award.

Wayne raised over £7,000 for the Community Rescue Service when he did his historic swim.  If you'd like to show support to a fellow Bagshot resident and help get Wayne some recognition for his amazing feat you can vote for him at the WOWSA website.
