Bagshot Village Plan

The Bagshot Village Plan is all about the people of Bagshot and our hopes and concerns for our community. If you’ve got a burning vision for Bagshot or something that you’d really like to fix, why not get in contact with the Steering Group. You might find that it’s something other people also feel passionate about and together we can build the community we want for the future.

About the Village Plan

What is a Parish / Community Plan?

"It is a process by which the whole community can voice their opinions on what actions they wish to see taken in their local area in the future. The plan when completed may highlight actions that can be taken by community members, be used to influence service providers such as your local authority, and act as evidence of need when applying for funding.

Communities everywhere are constantly changing. The government wants local communities to take more control of their own lives, to say what they want doing in their own neighbourhoods and to engage with other organisations to get it done. You cannot prevent change, but what you can do is influence it. Parish or Community Plans help your community to make change happen. They mean an opportunity for everyone in your community to make themselves heard.

Parish Plans lay out a shared vision for the community over the next 10+ years and contain a detailed action plan for achieving this vision. It is up to the community to define the issues to be tackled by a Parish or Community Plan.

A Parish or Community Plan sets out how community action can meet local needs, can help to prioritise resources and can provide important information to help influence the policies, decisions and actions of others. Parish and Community Plans belong to the community, to be delivered by that community or in partnership with other agencies."

from the Parish and Community Planning Toolkit

The Bagshot Village Plan is a community led initiative to help us make Bagshot the place we want it to be. The plan is being co-ordinated by a steering committee of volunteers and includes:

  • Geoff Marston
  • Glyn Carpenter
  • Valerie White
  • Paul Hutchinson
  • Margaret Williams
  • Meurig Williams
  • Stefan Nahajski
  • Ron Napper
  • Nick Dorrington

If you’re wondering what a village plan might look like, you can find lots of examples of plans produced by other villages on the web (eg. Lingfield Village Plan). Clearly each community has it’s own aspirations and issues so the Bagshot plan will be unique.

Input about young people from 2008 Village Day

Friday, 16 October 2009 00:00

Approx 300 people came to the exhibition at the Village Day in May 2008. Here are the ideas and issues that were raised with respect to youth (11-18) and children (0-11)

Summary

Here are the key themes that emerged:

  • Play areas for all young children to teenagers
    • School Road park
    • Other areas
  • Places for young people to hang-out
  • Evening activites for young people
  • Better information about what’s available
  • When is the Children’s Centre opening?

Input (as written)

  • More playing field/equipment for children (similar to Berkshire)
  • Space next to Bagshot Infants to have a lot more play equipment. The one at Sunningdale is perfect
    • Second this comment – Bagshot play facilities totally inadequate for young children.
  • More and better play facilities for young children
  • Affordable housing for fathers looking after young children after separation
  • Need more for children to do. Play equipment for older children. Places for children to go/hang out.
  • Cinema
  • Theme park
  • Need more evening activities for 13yrs and older.
  • Better play facilities with more available for young children and teenagers
  • Children’s play area more central in village.
  • Manage the play areas – a climbing frame (School field) that cannot be used for 6 months of the year because of the water-logged base is a joke.
  • All age Village Activities
  • Need easily available information on community activities and societies
  • Make playing equipment better in park by Bagshot School
  • We are 3rd class citizens in Surrey Heath as regards decent play areas.
  • “Finishing” School Road play area and fencing off area for children
    • Plus better playground
  • Playground equipment in “open spaces” eg. Yaverland Drive
  • Decent playground equipment like Sunningdale (x4)
  • Keep more green areas for playgrounds forkids with stuff for older kids as well.
  • Could we have a village hall for use by all sections of the community with good access and parking and open space outside.
  • Children’s Centre – when?
